Ogden Nordic 2006 Clinics Off to a Great Start

The first Nordic ski clinic of the season that is presented by the Ogden Nordic Chapter of The Utah Nordic Alliance was held at Snowbasin Resort on 12/17/2005. More than 80 participants registered for the event which includes structured classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skating techniques as well as an introductory class for classic style skiing.

Ogden Nordic partnered this year with Snowbasin resort, Canyon Sports, Atomic, Alpina, Madshus, Rottefella and Toko to present a unique clinic and demonstration festival. Coaches and registration were coordinated by Ogden Nordic members while all equipment was provided free of charge by Snowbasin and industry representatives.

The event was a smashing success overall and offers a unique opportunity for the community to try Nordic skiing for the first time or hone their skills while trying out some of the latest equipment and experiencing the wonderful 25KM trail network at Snowbasin Resort.

Snowbasin was the perfect host for the event. They set up a tent and pulled out their entire rental fleet of Rossignol skate and classic style skis free for the event. Snowbasin also provided ample space for industry representatives to set up tents and demonstration equipment. Canyon Sports provided even more skis for demonstration and passed out free sleds and other gifts to event participants.

The space looked more like something that we see at Thanksgiving camp in West Yellowstone and was unlike anything we’ve seen in the Ogden area before. As if that wasn’t enough, Snowbasin set up fire barrels with the Sun Valley Logo to help us all keep warm and provided free hot chocolate for all participants. It was a beautiful for the event with light, fluffy snow over freshly groomed trails. Snowbasin kept up with the snow with grooming that continued throughout the day.

Special thanks to all of the Ogden Nordic members who volunteered their time for coaching during the event. Linda Reis and Paul Stromberg provided instruction for one of the beginner skate classes while Jim White led instruction for the other. Lisa White and Graham Stromberg instructed our intermediate and advanced skate classes and Paul Ries and Dave Jenkins taught the introductory classic class. We also had help from members of the Ogden Nordic Juniors team including Cole Stromberg and Craig Merrill.

Ogden Nordic has scheduled two more Nordic ski clinics at Snowbasin resort this season. The first will be on Saturday 1/21/2006 and the second on Sunday 2/19/2006. These clinics will not include free demonstration equipment but rental equipment will be available at the Snowbasin Grizzly Center. Participation in the clinic is free.
